As the high school football season reached Week 7, league races were beginning to take shape, and, in some cases, heading toward pivotal showdowns.
The Principals Athletic Conference had one of those showdowns. Coming off a win over previously unbeaten Fairless, CVCA traveled to Canal Fulton to take on Northwest in a game that could have cleared the dust at the top of the standings but instead created a logjam. Northwest pulled out a 29-28 overtime win and both teams now have one loss in the league along with Canton South, which defeated Fairless.

In the City Series, favorite East rolled over winless Firestone to set up a potential showdown with the winner of Saturday's game between Garfield and Buchtel for supremacy in the City.
