Your move, Canada Post.

The United States Postal Service, in honor of what would have been Alex Trebek’s 84^th birthday on Monday, July 22^nd, will be issuing a commemorative Forever Stamp; pre-orders began today at usps.com. The news was announced on today’s episode of Jeopardy!.

While the stamps don’t contain Alex Trebek’s picture, they do contain a clue reading “THIS NATURALIZED U.S. CITIZEN HOSTED THE QUIZ SHOW ‘JEOPARDY!’ FOR 37 SEASONS”, with the response of “Who is Alex Trebek?” upside down.

The stamps were designed by Antonio Alcalá of the USPS, as well as hand lettering from Marti Davila.

There will also be a “first day of issue” event at John Calley Park in Culver City, California. In order to RSVP for the “first day of issue” event, attendees are required to register at https://usps.com/alextrebekstamp/

Editorially, I am slightly disappointed as a Canadian that the US Postal Service beat Canada Post to honoring Alex Trebek with a stamp—it is now my hope that Canada Post will issue a commemorative stamp in the future. Let’s hope that happens in 2025.

Was waiting for its own thread to say: This is awesome. The idea of using a Jeopardy clue to honor him on a stamp is pretty perfect. I’m not a philatelist but I just might have to get a sheet of these…

Despite the fact that I already own over 25 booklets of Forever stamps which I bought 4 years ago and still have which I am using up slowly but surely, I will need to order a few of these Alex Trebek Forever stamps before the prices go up (again) in July. I’ll never run out of stamps now…
I still miss Alex. When Ken is introduced, I still hear in my head “Alex Trebek”.

Andy;
Besides being the host of several US games shows, the majority of which I presume also made it across the border to Canada, wasn’t Alex known for being the “voice” of something on CBC?
Is it me, or, does the font used for the “answer” clue on the stamps look exactly as the standard font used on Jeopardy?
Will “wheel watchers” demand that Pat Sajak get his won stamp, even though I beilive US law prohibits honoring a person still living on currency, or, stamps.
