I've always made them with grape jelly and Heinz Chili Sauce! I'll have to try these!

Hi Sisters! I just wanted to tell you I had seen you on Pinterest but finally clicked over to your website, and I'm glad I did! This is such a cute site that I will definitely be following along. I have 8 children (5 boys, 3 girls, ranging in age from almost 15-10 months) but having 6 sisters must be a ton of fun :) I'm loving your slow cooker recipes for the weekdays when our evenings are hectic with sports. I'm sure my husband will appreciate it! Thanks again, and I will be checking back often :)

  3. Shanta' says:

Yummy, we had this tonight. I did cut the sauce ingredients in half and actually had a 32 oz bag of meatballs...perfect! This is a Kemp Keeper!
    Thanks!

I made these for our baby's baptism party - I was going for a fall theme for food, and the cranberries are what won me over :) Plus it's easy food to eat off of a paper plate, but yet hearty for those who want more than just a fruit and veggie tray.
This recipe turned out so amazingly good it's insane. I used about 3.5 lbs of frozen meatballs, and 2 packages of little wienies (football loving men and 3 year-olds both can't resist little hot dogs).
Since I had more meat, used a double sized bottle of bbq (from Sam's Club) and one can of whole cranberry sauce. It was the perfect amount of sauce, and the cranberries added a wonderful sweetness and tanginess.
We've been devouring the leftovers & we like them best served with mashed potatoes.
Thank you so much for posting this! We will be making it often!

  5. Gabriela says:

Amazingly good! made it tonight and I made my own meatballs too.

  6. Sarah says:

I need to make this for 20-25 people. Should I double, triple the recipe??Thanks!

  7. Cyd says:

This recipe serves about 7 to 8 people. So you will want to at least triple the recipe. If you are feeding a lot of adult men, you may want to quadruple the recipe.

  8. tish says:

I've made this sauce my whole life... my mom cut the recipe out in the 1950's...BUT... so worth making the co*cktail meatballs night before... ground beef, mined onions, sweet pickle relish... then roll the meatballs and shake in (chicken) shake-n-bake in the oven, then into the crock pot day of the party with cranberry & ketchup...

  9. staci D says:

Will it turn out the same if I use a can of Whole cranberry? I don't have the jellied on hand?

  10. Cyd says:

It should be fine with whole cranberries. Especially if you love cranberries!

  11. Rachel Page says:

This is so easy, so quick, and so yummy! Everyone just loved them.

  12. Susan B says:

Thanks for that recipe for the meatballs. I’m not a fan of the frozen ones and this is one I haven’t seen. Sounds great.

FAQs

How long to heat meatballs in crockpot on high? ›

Cover the slow cooker and cook the meatballs on HIGH for 2 to 2 1/2 hours, until the meatballs are cooked through (slice one in half to check). With a spoon, gently turn the meatballs to coat them in the sauce and distribute the garlic and red pepper flakes. Sprinkle additional Parmesan and parsley on top, to taste.

Is it safe to cook frozen meatballs in crockpot? ›

Well, if you're planning to use the slow cooker to heat frozen meatballs, it's safest to work with fully cooked and frozen meatballs. That's because you want to keep food at adequately hot temperatures to avoid the “danger zone,” or the temperature range of 40°F to 140°F where bacteria grow most rapidly.

What's a good sauce for meatballs in a crockpot? ›

To sauce the meatballs in a slow cooker:

Add frozen meatballs to crockpot. Add chili sauce and grape jelly. Cover and cook for 2 to 3 hours on HIGH or 4 to 6 hours on LOW, until the sauce is hot. Serve directly from the crockpot with a serving spoon or toothpicks, or transfer to a serving dish.

Can I leave meatballs in crockpot overnight? ›

Just brown them in the oven under broil and then set the crockpot on low and cook them overnight in the sauce. They'll be perfectly done, perfectly safe, and delicious in the morning. A few extra hours won't hurt them at all and then you won't have to worry about time, temperature and food safety.

What can I eat with meatballs instead of pasta? ›

Mashed potatoes are a classic pairing for meatballs, like these Grape Jelly Meatballs. Photo by Jennifer Stevens. For a change from the usual plain rice or noodles, give this rice pilaf a try on the side of some Lamb Meatballs and Sauce.

What can I eat with just meatballs? ›

Crusty bread, marinara and mozzerella cheese. Buttered egg noodles (or spaetzle) or alternately buttered and parsleyed boiled potatoes, steamed green beans. Or go with mashed potatoes, green peas and lingonberry jam. Rice and tomato sauce, white asparagus.

Is it better to grill or bake meatballs? ›

I find that baking them and then finishing them in the sauce is the best method. Baking them ensures even cooking and browning as well as good flavor development. Throwing them into the sauce for a few minutes before serving flavors the sauce and keeps the meatballs moist and delicious.

Why can't you put frozen meat in a slow cooker? ›

It is best to thaw meat or poultry before putting it into a slow cooker. Frozen pieces will take longer to reach a safe internal temperature and could possibly result in foodborne illness. Frozen or partially frozen foods can also cool everything else in the slow cooker.

Can I leave my crockpot on low all night? ›

Is it safe to leave a slow cooker on for 12 hours? Yes, you can use your slow cooker for longer than eight hours, as long as you keep an eye on it. Many slow cookers do have an automatic shutoff after 24 hours.

Should I thaw frozen meatballs before putting them in slow cooker? ›

The internal temperature of the ground beef meatballs should be 160º when completely cooked. Do you thaw meatballs before putting them in a crockpot? Nope! The frozen meatballs can go straight from the freezer and into the crockpot.

Can I reheat cooked meatballs in crockpot? ›

Reheating leftovers in a slow cooker is not recommended. Cooked food should be reheated on the stove, in a microwave, or in a conventional oven until it reaches 165 °F. Then the hot food can be placed in a preheated slow cooker to keep it hot for serving—at least 140 °F as measured with a food thermometer.

How long does it take a slow cooker to heat up on high? ›

Preheat. To minimize the risk of food becoming unsafe by remaining in the temperature danger zone for too long, preheat your empty slow cooker on the highest setting for approximately 1 hour. Use the time to prepare your ingredients.

How long to heat up already cooked meatballs? ›

Place the pot on medium heat and bring it to a slow boil. After it comes to a boil turn the heat down to low. This is a really gentle way to reheat your meatballs. You can let the meatballs cook slowly for 30 minutes or until the meatballs are completely reheated.

How long to heat up pre cooked meatballs? ›

Combine the meatballs and sauce in a pan and cook over low heat until the meatballs are warmed through. The timing is dependent on how many meatballs you're heating. If it's just a few, it should take about 10 minutes, with more meatballs adding more cook time.
