Last week, at least a dozen police cruisers showed up at Kaylee’s Nail Salon which was operating in violation of Governor Phil Murphy’s executive order. The video was captured by Gibbs Truth, an independent journalist out of Newark.

The decision to remove the encampment came from the university police, with Newark officers positioned to manage traffic not engaging directly in the removal.

    During the operation, three Newark Police officers, initially assigned to traffic duties, intervened to aid Rutgers Police who had detained a man after a chase and were facing a growing crowd. The crowd was subsequently dispersed, and the detained individual was released without charges by Rutgers Police, allowing Newark officers to resume their traffic control posts.

    Newark's Mayor Ras J. Baraka and Public Safety Director Fritz G. Frage commend Rutgers University-Newark for its handling of the situation, particularly noting the respectful approach towards the protesters which has been seen as a model for managing campus protests nationally. Chancellor Nancy Cantor was specifically thanked for her leadership and the university's commitment to maintaining peace and respecting students' rights to assemble.

    In an unrelated incident, one Newark Police officer is under investigation for inappropriate conduct at the scene. The city maintains its stance on respecting public rights and diverse viewpoints, ensuring that all engagements are handled with due respect and legal adherence.

  • Vehicle That Caused Deadly Hit and Run in Jackson Fled Scene

    JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ — A fatal accident involving a bicyclist occurred on Farmingdale Road at noon today, prompting an extensive investigation by local authorities. The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad and the Jackson Township Police Department are jointly investigating the incident.

    The collision involved a 2017 Audi A4 that was traveling westbound on Farmingdale Road. According to the investigation, the Audi swerved into the opposite lane to avoid a head-on collision with an SUV, striking a bicyclist in the process.

    After hitting the bicyclist, the Audi driver overcorrected, leading the vehicle to collide with a tree.

    The SUV, described as red or maroon and possibly a Hyundai, did not stop and continued eastbound on Farmingdale Road.

    The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The driver of the Audi sustained minor injuries and was transported to CentraState Medical Center in Freehold for treatment. Authorities are seeking a Caucasian female, believed to be driving the SUV with a young male child, who may have contributed to the accident.

    This is the third roadway fatality in Jackson in the past two weeks.

    JOHNSTOWN, PA — Brian Bradley Giles was convicted on Thursday for the murder of his wife, Nancy Giles, who was found in a shallow grave in 2019. Following his conviction, Cambria County authorities discovered human remains in the basem*nt of the Johnstown home where the couple previously resided.

    Brian Giles reacted to his conviction with a mixture of humor and bitterness. "Nope, I’m innocent, but if this is what they want to do let them do it, man,” Giles said in an interview with Johnstown Fox affiliate WWCP. “I’ve been railroaded before. It’s all good. There ain’t nothing I can hope for, right? Everybody got what they wanted.”

    Over the course of the investigation, Giles reportedly changed his account of events 18 times, according to prosecutors.

    The discovery of additional human remains came not only after his murder conviction but also during the ongoing search for his missing girlfriend, Jilly Todaro. Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees stated, “This is going to be a lengthy investigation and methodical process in removing these remains.”

  • Six Injured in Crash on Route 35

    HOLMDEL, NJ — A significant traffic incident involving seven vehicles occurred earlier today on Highway 35 at the intersection with Laurel Avenue, leading to multiple injuries and road closure. Holmdel Township Police Department responded to the crash site at 1:17 PM.

    Upon arrival, officers found one of the vehicles emitting smoke and a substantial amount of oil and gas leaking onto the roadway. Emergency services, including Holmdel Fire Department, Holmdel First Aid, and Middletown First Aid, were dispatched to manage the situation. A total of six individuals sustained injuries from the incident; fortunately, none were life-threatening.

    Laurel Avenue was closed from the Highway 35 on-ramp to the intersection with Highway 35 for about two hours to facilitate the investigation and cleanup efforts. The road has since been reopened. Witnesses to the accident are urged to contact Holmdel Police at 732-946-4400.
